Sometimes cats may duke it out with each other, making nasty growling sounds as they stare each other down in a Mexican stand-off manner. Snowborn's cartoonish Cat Clans has a somewhat cute and funny premise that they are banding together in Scottish-style clans, though we haven't seen them forming too many of them. Despite the fact that their visual style is different from most of the previous Microgaming releases, this budding Microgaming partner is still searching for their own voice.

Even the base game of this medieval-inspired game can produce solid payouts because of the multiplying multiplier wilds, and there is a lot to like in this installment. You have the option of collecting Golden Paws for the Clan Battle bonus prize feature at random times, and the Cat-a-pult bonus round comes with sticky wilds that increase in multipliers per spin, and the Overlay Golden Paws can be collected for the Clan Battle bonus prize feature at random times. Overall, 20,000x is a solid payout, and this is Snowborn's best effort so far.

Features of the Cat Clans slot machine

If you land five of a kind wins in the cat premiums game, you will receive between 10 and 12.5 x your stake, and wilds can appear anywhere to help you complete winning combinations. There is a wild multiplier of between x1 and x5 attached to these wilds. The wild multipliers are multiplied together if there is more than one multiplier wild involved in a winning combination. The wild multipliers pay out up to 111x your stake if there are five oaks involved.

If you land three scatter symbols on reels 1, 3, or 5 during the Cat-a-pult Free Spins round, you will receive an up front scatter win of 1.5x your stake. For starters, you are awarded 3 free spins, which are reset to 3 each time a wild symbol lands on the reels. You also get stick wilds for the duration of the feature, which are boosted by +1 by the catapult, so each sticky wild is upgraded to an x9 multiplier wild. Each wild can therefore be upgraded to a wild multiplier wild with a maximum multiplier of 9 times the number of scatters on each reel.

The Golden Paw symbols that sometimes overlay premium symbols can be found in the treasure chest on the left-hand side of the screen. Depending on the circumstances, it can lead to the Clan Battle Bonus Game, during which the 4 cat premiums, the Clan Mac Cattus, the Clan Mac Whiskers, the Clan Mac Feline and the Clan Mac Tabby, will be upgraded with a prize between 10 and 10,000 times your stake.

It is then up to the cat to land the most symbols during the free spin rounds, and whoever wins the prize is the cat that lands the most during those rounds. If it is a draw between 2 or more symbols, then you get a continuous number of extra spins until a winner is chosen. There is no Clan Battle Bonus available on the bonus buy menu, but you can purr-chase (bad pun, we know) the Cat-a-pult Bonus Round for 50x your stake (not for UK players).
