Review of Captain Shockwave online slot machine
With its 3D graphics, Alpha Squad is an excellent game by Saucify with a tie-in to this slot. I expected a high amount from this game after enjoying the last one. Unfortunately, those expectations were not met. There are, however, some positives about it. It is a solid slot, with the potential for huge free spin bonus rounds, as well as a comic book-like pay table that takes you through the story of the game. It's a bit flat and uninspiring compared to Alpha Squad.
Design-wise, this game is deliberately retro. The symbols and animations are more 1950's comic book than anything else. There is some humour involved; sonar is a superhero dog. Playing cards dominate most of the screen during many spins, which is not a good sign. It also has a logo, Captain Shockwave himself, a newspaper, and a kid in various situations. When you hit a win, the game takes some time to cycle through each of the 50 winning lines. After you hit a few wins, there is a simple tune playing in the background, which is rhythmic enough to make it enjoyable.
In this slot, there is only one free spins game - 20 spins with a 5x multiplier are the best combination.
Captain Shockwave Setup and Play
A total of 50 win-lines are available on this game, and you can choose from a variety of numbers. There are coins of 1p, 5p, 10p, 25p and 50p. Depending on how many coins you bet per line, the smallest spin is 50p, and the biggest is £125 for a high roller. Up to 100 games can be auto-spun without having to click.
The best symbol in this game is Captain Shockwave, the 1950s superhero. He is wild, substituting for everything except a dog or child by a car (scatters). You can win 6000 coins for five captains on a line. This symbol doubles the prizes for any other winning combinations it contributes to.
Playing cards represent the smaller (but still important) wins. The child with the TV is worth 1200 for 5, the newspaper is worth 600, the Alpha Squad logo is worth 500, and the portrait of the captain is worth 400.
A regular scatter symbol is the child by the car. It pays out for 2 or more anywhere on the reels. If you land 5 scatters, you'll win 100 times your total bet, 4 will reward you with 20x, and 3 will reward you with 5x.
The dog scatter has the same pay-outs as the child, but also triggers free spins: 5 dogs = 20 spins with a 5x multiplier, 4 dogs = 15 spins with a 4x multiplier, and 3 dogs = 10 spins with a 3x multiplier.
Free Spins Bonus Round - Captain Shockwave
During the free spins round, the game does not differ from the other, and I think Captain Shockwave could have benefited from more features. Your winnings will be listed above the reels, as well as your spin countdown. Your winnings, including those from the Captain, are doubled before your free spins multiplier is awarded – so you have the potential for some big wins. Also, you can retrigger the bonus by hitting 3+ dogs anywhere on the reels. After you finish the game, you will see your total prize and can continue playing normally.
A conclusion to Captain Shockwave
Though it lacks a certain edge when compared with many of the alternatives available these days, this is a solid slot. When compared to the main Alpha Squad game, it did come up a little short. I would rate it 6/10 for its standalone review. I like the game play, and I like the chance to win big during the free spins (a maximum win of 6000 coins and a multiplier of 5x). With Saucify, you can play any of their games via your web browser, and that gives them the advantage of looking great on tablets and mobile devices as well. This is not a world-beater, but it is definitely worth a try.
